How Many Shots Will Get Me Drunk?
Most people feel drunk after 3-5 shots of hard liquor in one hour. But everyone is different.
What Types of Shots Get You Drunk?
Regular Shots (40% alcohol)
Most shots are 1.5 oz of 40% alcohol:
- Vodka shots
- Whiskey shots
- Tequila shots
- Rum shots
- Gin shots
160 lb male: About 3 shots in an hour can give a strong buzz.
4 is over the legal driving limit.
130 lb female: About 2 shots in an hour can feel heavy.
3 is over the legal driving limit.
Weaker Shots (10-35% alcohol)
Some shots have less alcohol:
- Liqueur shots: 15-30% alcohol (much weaker)
- Mixed shots: Often mixed with juice or soda
- Flavored shots: Are weaker than regular shots
160 lb male: About 4–6 (20% ABV) shots in an hour = buzz.
7–8 = likely over the legal limit.
130 lb female: About 3–4 (20% ABV) shots in an hour = buzz.
5–6 = likely over the legal limit.
Stronger Shots (Rare in the US)
Some shots are extra strong:
- Overproof rum: 50-75% alcohol
- Absinthe: 45-75% alcohol
- Everclear: 95% alcohol (extremely dangerous)
160 lb male: About 2 (50%+ ABV) shots in an hour = strong buzz.
3–4 = likely over the legal limit.
130 lb female: About 1 (50%+ ABV) shot in an hour = buzz.
2 = likely over the legal limit.
